The Tung Chung Line Extension will offer direct railway access to the Tung Chung New Town Extension to support the long-term, sustainable growth in population and employment opportunities in that area. The Tung Chung East Section includes the construction of the Tung Chung East Station at the Tung Chung East reclamation area between the existing Sunny Bay and Tung Chung stations and approximately a 1.2km long railway track re-alignment for the existing Tung Chung Line. Tung Chung East Station is an above-ground station with an elevated concourse.
Appoint Commissioning Authority to involve in the design stage
Proactive measures to reduce site emissions to minimize air, noise, water and light pollution
Commit to achieve at least 15% construction waste recycling and considerate construction
BIM application throughout the design to construction to operation
Digital facility management interface and occupant engagement platform to be provided
Achieve 100% applicable sustainable urbanism measures in the design
Reserve daylight access to the neighborhood by providing at least 30% VDF to the adjacent buildings
Provide shaded and covered pedestrian walkway
Provide VE wall cladding, wall guard & bumper and use of at grade columns with collision load as protective measures
Use of low ozone depletion refrigerant and material
Carbon emission reduction of 30.9% to be achieved by adopting high performance façade and glazing, lighting design with reduced LPD, efficient MVAC fans, reduced escalator energy and application of DCS
On-site PV installation to generate electricity offsetting 2.3% of total annual building energy consumption for controlled area
Annual water saving of 44.4% to be achieved by adopting WELS Grade 1 sanitary fitments
Annual reduction of potable water consumption of 92% for irrigation system by adopting Midori-chan greening system for green roof and drip-stand irrigation system for soft landscape areas
Provide twin tank system for potable water and flush water systems
MVAC design with fresh air provision of 30% exceedance over the minimum ventilation rate stipulated in ASHRAE Standard 62.1-2016
Noise isolation design between offices / conference room / retail shops
Thermal comfort design in compliance within the PMV requirement
Artificial lighting design in compliance with CIBSE’s lighting performance requirement for both normally occupied and not normally occupied spaces
As a low-carbon public transport provider, we are committed to managing our environmental footprint and achieving carbon neutrality. Our Corporate Responsibility (“CoR”) Policy highlights our commitment to manage and mitigate environmental impacts of our business taking into account resource use, biodiversity and climate change. The CoR Policy lays down a solid foundation to incorporate sustainability considerations into the entire lifecycle of our projects and operations. To supplement the CoR Policy, we have established a Green Procurement Policy covering specific supply chain-related aspects and a Climate Change Strategy to stipulate our commitment to mitigating, adapting and building resilience to climate change.
We recognise climate change as a highly material issue to our business, bringing both risks and opportunities to our existing operations as well as future development. Our commitment to addressing climate change is demonstrated by our support of the Government’s Hong Kong Climate Action Plan 2050 which outlines strategies and targets for combating climate change and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. We also support the International Association of Public Transport (“UITP”) Declaration on Climate Leadership which spells out the industry’s responsibility to act and its commitment to climate leadership. Our Climate Change Strategy emphasises our commitment to managing and minimising our impacts on climate change through mitigation, adaptation and building our climate resilience.
We have developed a long-term decarbonisation roadmap for the operation and development of our railway and property businesses in Hong Kong through conducting a carbon reduction study in which we took into account a comprehensive range of factors including the latest climate science, technology trends, Hong Kong’s Climate Action Plan 2050, and the risks and opportunities for our business. Following the Study, we are committed to setting science-based carbon reduction targets for the operation and development of our railway network and property portfolio in Hong Kong for 2030 with the longer-term goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
In 2020, we started to communicate our climate-related policies and strategies, especially those related to financial disclosures, with reference to the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (“TCFD”) to provide our stakeholders with comparable and consistent information on how the Corporation is tackling climate change and managing the associated risks and opportunities.
