Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Substation (HMB Substation), which will be built in the newly reclaimed area at Chek Lap Kok, is designed to provide reliable and stable power supply to the future Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge transportation hub.
Green Substation with Low Carbon Initiatives
Green practices for the substation has been developed with a systematic and innovative approach. The development of HMB Substation addresses various aspects of environmental protection throughout the entire project life cycle.
More than 30% of surface area of the substation will be covered with greenery including vertical green wall, creating a welcoming entry for and blending in with the surroundings of the new transportation hub. Rainwater recycling system and automatic dripping irrigation system will be in place to save more than 70% of water for irrigation. Photovoltaic (PV) panels with solar tracking devices will be installed to maximise the harvest of the solar energy which will further reduce power consumption of the substation. Solar tube will be provided to channel the outdoor natural sunlight to the interior space.
Starting from the design and planning stage, Building Information Modelling (BIM) has been adopted to enhance coordination among different professional disciplines. Green site office will be set up with zero construction waste schemes implemented, promoting the adaptive reuse of temporary construction materials, as well as reducing the cost and wastage for substation construction.
The green HMB Substation not only marks the new environmental standard for substation design, but also the CLP Power’s milestone in striving for environmental excellence continuously.
Essential quantifiable features of the project:
Green Vision
Care for Environment is always one of the fundamental core values of CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP Power) and this has been fully implemented in the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Substation (HMB Substation) project.
To provide a highly reliable electricity supply to support the new boundary crossing facilities of Hong Kong, CLP Power takes up the initiative and plans to build the HMB Substation in a sustainable approach with the adoption of state-of-art green features in the building. This target has been well embedded in the coordination of all participating parties and stakeholders during the whole project. A holistic approach will be adopted for the design, construction, operation and maintenance for HMB Substation, forming strategic blueprint for reengineering the future substation projects.
