Gammon Technology Park (GTP) is in the Tseung Kwan O Industrial Estate. With a total of 14,432 sq. metres workshop area, various services workshops run daily in the steel shed near the entrance of the Park and both ground floor and first floor of the Main Building to provide maintenance and repair services for our projects. Besides our core business of rental services to both internal and external clients, we also provide engineering services and vehicles maintenance packages. Not only serving as a service center, the GTP also provides over 5,000 sq. metres office area for the Construction Services Division (CSD), Foundations Division, BIM team, Geotechnical Laboratory (Gammon Technology Centre) and the main training centre for the Gammon Academy.

環保特點

  • Turn on equipment/ systems based on operational hours of buildings.
  • Avoid pre-cooling. Switch on centralised A/C system not more than 30 minutes in advance in the morning.
  • Encourage using the stairs (for one or two floors up or down) rather than taking the lift.
  • Shut down some of the lifts and escalators during non-peak hours.
  • Replaced at least 30% by total cooling capacity serving the building from air-cooled chiller to either water-cooled chiller or oil free variable speed air/ water cooled chiller.
  • At least 50% by total cooling capacity serving the building are high efficiency chiller. (>15% higher than BEC 2012’s COP at full load in the same category)
  • At least 80% by total cooling capacity of all VRF are high efficiency VRF. (>15% higher than BEC 2012’s COP at full load in the same category)
  • At least 30% of all areas are served by LED lighting.
  • Achieved the HK Green Organisation Certification (HKGOC) for Energywi$e Certificate “Good Level”.
  • Held an energy seminar for a total of 41 premises users in 2018.
  • Join and promote Earth Hour events and turn lights off for one hour during lunchtime.
  • Supporting organisation for the HK Green Building Week. Actively promote Biz Green Day.
  • Smart electricity meters to record the consumption at different sections of the premises and are used for energy reduction analysis.

故事

Gammon has been advancing the cause of sustainability within the company, as well as working to influence the construction industry as a whole, for more than 15 years. We believe that, as a leader in the construction industry, it is part of our responsibility to drive the implementation of new ideas, act sustainably and reduce waste.

Last year, we refreshed our sustainability strategy with a new focus and targets that look to 2025 and beyond.  Called Responsible Growth – 25 by 25, it has four focus areas: people, safety, value chain and the environment. Within each focus area, we have set a range of objectives and numerical targets that must be achieved by 2025. Within the environment focus area, our aspiration is for zero waste in all its forms and a key target is for a 25% reduction in carbon intensity.

While we have achieved many BEAM Plus credits for the new buildings we have constructed, we felt it was appropriate to demonstrate how energy improvements can also be made to existing, older, structures.

For this application at our Gammon Technology Park, an energy committee was formed which met bi-monthly to review energy improvements that could be made.  While the team was enthusiastic about its mission, we did face obstacles gathering the documentary evidence required.  However, the process has delivered valuable lessons and our energy committee, which will continue to meet quarterly, has a greater appreciation of the value record keeping and the importance of being able to use those records for analyses of energy use performance. In general, we saw a shift in attitude and electrical equipment due for replacement is now evaluated differently.

Attitudes at Gammon Technology Park also changed throughout this application process with the team significantly more energy aware. We have since installed solar panels and associated sensor technology that we hope will serve as a demonstration to clients of the benefits that can be achieved by installing this technology.
