Management

The development of the EcoPark is one of the Government’s initiatives to promote the sustainable development of the local recycling industry. It aims to provide long-term land at affordable cost for the recycling industry, thereby encouraging their investment in advanced technologies and value-added processes.

The 20-hectare EcoPark is situated in Tuen Mun Area 38 and is being developed in two phases. Phase 1 covers an area of 8 hectares with a rental area of about 3.6 hectares. Including the rental areas in Phase 2, the whole EcoPark could provide a total of 14 hectares of rentable land for recycling industry.

The Administration Building and part of outdoor areas of the EcoPark have adopted various green features or materials so as to save the energy consumption, reduce the use of fossil fuel energy and encourage recycling of waste materials during the park operation.

  • Terracotta Louvers
  • Sun Pipes
  • Green Carpark
  • Solar Hot Water System
  • Solar Photovoltaic Panel
  • Paving Blocks with Recycled Glass Contents

Story

EcoPark is a facility of Environmental Protection Department specially constructed for recycling industry. Through the provision of long-term land at affordable costs and whole package of amenities, EcoPark aims at alleviating expenditure of recyclers on infrastructure, thereby encouraging their investments in advanced technologies and recycling processes.

EcoPark supports to local recycling industry in the following areas:-

  • Long-term land at affordable rental
  • Properly formed land with basic infrastructures and utilities connected for ready start-up of recycling business
  • Creating synergy among clusters of similar industries
  • More job opportunities for recycling and related industries
  • Prestige associated with business based in EcoPark

Since the operation of the first EcoPark tenant in 2010, the collected waste materials were raised initially from 9,000 tonnes to over 180,000 tonnes in 2017.

The Visitor Centre is equipped with interesting and engaging exhibits, such as life-size model of landfill, virtual three-dimensional multimedia exhibit, interactive games and video. Through these activities, it not only increases the visitors’ awareness of environmental protection and understanding of municipal solid waste management, but also helps to rethink about 3Rs – “reduce”, “reuse” and ”recycle”.

With an aspiration of environmental education promotion, EcoPark’s Visitor Centre received over 160,000 visitors since its opening in 2011. Workshops and seminars are regularly organized to provide an overview of waste reduction and current status of waste management initiatives.
